Art Journaling Unleashed: Redefine the Canvas of Your Creativity

May 10, 2024
Who says art journaling needs to stay within the covers of a book?

I am a fan of tossing out the rulebook, and over the past 25 years of nurturing my art journaling practice, I have!

Let’s dive into a world where every scrap of paper, every cardboard box, and every expansive canvas becomes a playground for our creativity.

Imagine scribbling a quick doodle on a napkin while sipping coffee or slinging colorful paint onto a piece of reclaimed wood or cardboard scrap.

Picture yourself making spontaneous marks (with any pen or pencil you have handy) on newspaper, or creating a collage on the back of an envelope. This is art journaling, unrestrained and utterly joyful!

There is something wonderfully playful about using unconventional surfaces for art journaling. It’s like being a kid again, given permission to draw on the walls: liberating, exhilarating, and a little rebellious.

Whether you’re sketching on scraps of paper or layering mixed media on large canvases, the act itself is a profound source of joy and a powerful way to regulate your nervous system.

So, let’s not limit ourselves!

Let’s redefine art journaling on our own terms.

Every mark, every line, every splash of color not only adds to our unique visual journal but also mirrors the rhythm of your unique being, calming and invigorating all at once.

Let’s get creative and embrace the freedom of this unrestrained practice.

I am inviting you to let your art journaling practice spill over from the confines of sketchbooks to wherever the spirit moves you.

The surfaces may vary, but the outcome? ……..ALWAYS the same: a lot of fun, and a soothed nervous system.

Please share with me your ideas for art journaling everywhere but in a journal!!!!
